We are Tijana and Alison and we have recently taken on the role of Volunteer Programme Digital Communication Assistants (VPDC). We are very excited about our new role and feel very happy to be a part of the Geffrye Makers at this time of change and development for the museum.
We have a shared passion for the museum which comes from our interest in the home, design and art. We also love its peacefulness, not only the lovely garden spaces, but also the theme and contents of the museum itself.
Alison: I have had a long association with the museum going back to the 1990s when, as a young teacher, I brought groups of children here. I have continued to visit over the years with family and friends and have seen the development of the gardens and 20th Century galleries. I am now really looking forward to the next phase of ‘Unlocking the Geffyre’.
Tijana: I have been living in the UK for the past 3 years. In that time, I have visited the Geffrye Museum several times and fell in love with it. I was astonished by the beauty of the gardens, which combine both mysteriousness and tranquillity. Of the rooms in the museum, the 1960s is a favourite of mine.
In our role as VPDC we want to develop and create content for the blog and social media channels. We also want to increase the interaction with and between volunteers.
Look out for the ‘Object of the Month’ feature which will be starting soon, where we will focus on a different item from our collection.
We’d also like you to contribute! You can contribute to the volunteer blog by letting us know how you got involved in volunteering and what you do in your volunteer role. Contact us or send an email to Volunteering@geffrye-museum.org.uk
